Instrument panel illumination

When the vehicle’s parking lights or headlights are on, rotate the illumination control knob to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel illumination.

Speedometer

The speedometer indicates the forward speed of the vehicle.

The speedometer is calibrated in kilometers per hour and miles per hour.

Tachometer


Tachometer

The tachometer indicates the approximate number of engine revolutions per minute (rpm).

Use the tachometer to select the correct shift points and to prevent lugging and/or over-revving the engine.

The tachometer pointer may move slightly when the ignition switch is in ACC or ON position with the engine OFF. This movement is normal and will not affect the accuracy of the tachometer once the engine is running.

CAUTION:


Do not operate the engine within the tachometer's RED ZONE.

This may cause severe engine damage.

Engine temperature gauge


Engine temperature gauge

This gauge shows the temperature of the engine coolant when the ignition switch is ON.

Do not continue driving with an overheated engine. If your vehicle overheats, refer to “If the engine overheats” in section 6.

CAUTION:


If the gauge pointer moves beyond the normal range area toward the “H” position, it indicates overheating that may damage the engine.

WARNING:


Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. The engine coolant is under pressure and could cause severe burns. Wait until the engine is cool before adding coolant to the reservoir.

Fuel gauge


Fuel gauge

The fuel gauge indicates the approximate amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank. The fuel tank capacity is given in section 8. The fuel gauge is supplemented by a low fuel warning light, which will illuminate when the fuel tank is nearly empty.

On inclines or curves, the fuel gauge pointer may fluctuate or the low fuel warning light may come on earlier than usual due to the movement of fuel in the tank.

Avoid driving with an extremely low fuel level. Running out of fuel could cause the engine to misfire, damaging the catalytic converter.

WARNING:

- Fuel gauge Running out of fuel can expose vehicle occupants to danger.

You must stop and obtain additional fuel as soon as possible after the warning light comes on or when the gauge indicator comes close to the E level.

CAUTION:


Avoid driving with a very low fuel level. If you run out of fuel, it could cause the engine to misfire and result in excessive loading of the catalytic converter.

Odometer/Tripmeter (if equipped)

Odometer (km or MI)

The odometer indicates the total distance the vehicle has been driven.

You will also find the odometer useful to determine when periodic maintenance should be performed.

NOTICE:


It is forbidden that alteration of the odometer of any vehicle with the intent to change the mileage registered on the odometer. The alteration may void your warranty coverage.

Tripmeter (km or MI)

The tripmeter indicates the distance of individual trip selected by the driver.

Tripmeter can be reset to 0 by pressing the TRIP button for 1 second or more, and then releasing.

Select the ECO mode by pressing the TRIP button for less than 1 second.

Then, press the TRIP button for more than 1 second.

Trip computer (if equipped)


Trip computer (if equipped)

The trip computer is a microcomputercontrolled driver information system that displays information related to driving, including distance to empty, tripmeter, average fuel consumption, driving time and average speed on the display when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

All stored driving information (except odometer) is reset if the battery is disconnected.

The odometer is always displayed until the display is turned off.

Push the TRIP button for less than 1 second to select distance to empty, average fuel consumption, average speed or tripmeter function as follows :

Tripmeter (km or miles)

This mode indicates the distance of individual trip since the last tripmeter reset.

The meter's working range is from 0.0 to 999.9 km (miles).

Pressing the TRIP button for more than 1 second when the tripmeter is being displayed clears the tripmeter to zero (0.0).

Distance to empty (km or miles)

This mode indicates the estimated distance to empty based on the current fuel in the fuel tank and the amount of fuel delivered to the engine. When the remaining distance is below 30 miles (50 km), “----” will be displayed and the distance to empty indicator will blink.

The meter’s working range is from 0 to 1500 km (0 to 1500 miles).

NOTICE:


• If the vehicle is not on level ground or the battery power has been interrupted, the “Distance to empty” function may not operate correctly.

The trip computer may not register additional fuel if less than 6 liters (1.6 gallons) of fuel are added to the vehicle.

• The fuel consumption and distance to empty values may vary significantly based on driving conditions, driving habits, and condition of the vehicle.

• The distance to empty value is an estimate of the available driving distance.

This value may differ from the actual driving distance available.

Average fuel consumption

This mode calculates the average fuel consumption from the total fuel used and the distance since the last average consumption reset. The total fuel used is calculated from the fuel consumption input.

For an accurate calculation, drive more than 50 m (0.03 mile).

The meter's working range is from 0.1 to 99.9 l/100 km (0.1 to 99.9 MPG).

Pressing the TRIP button for more than 1 second, when the average fuel consumption is being displayed, clears the average fuel consumption to zero (---).

Instantaneous fuel consumption


Instantaneous fuel consumption (if equipped)

This mode calculates the instantaneous fuel consumption from used fuel and the distance. The meter's working range is from 0.0 to 20.0l/100km (0.0 to 60.0l/MPG).

Display is updated at 0.1 seconds.

The value display if speed is over 10 km/h (6 mph).

When the instantaneous fuel consumption mode is displayed on the LCD monitor, the ECO indicator turns off.

Average speed (km/h or mph)

This mode calculates the average speed of the vehicle since the last average speed reset.

Even if the vehicle is not in motion, the average speed keeps going while the engine is running.

The meter's working range is from 0 to 260 km/h (0 to 160 mph).

Pressing the TRIP button for more than 1 second, when the average speed is being displayed, clears the average speed to zero (---).

Driving time

This mode indicates the total time traveled since the last driving time reset.

Even if the vehicle is not in motion, the driving time keeps going while the engine is running.

The meter’s working range is from 0:00~99:59.

Pressing the TRIP button for more than 1 second, when the driving time is being displayed, clears the driving time to zero (0:00). If the ignition switch is turned to OFF for more than 2 hours, it will be reset automatically.

Outside temperature (if equipped)

This mode indicates the outside temperature between -40°C (-40°F) and 80°C (175°F).

NOTICE:


Pressing the TRIP switch for more than 1 second, when the temperature is displayed in Centigrade, converts
Centigrade to Fahrenheit (°C → °F or °F → °C).

Select the ECO mode by pressing the TRIP button for less than 1 second.

Then, press the TRIP button for more than 1 second.

• Type B

When the instantaneous fuel consumption mode is displayed on the LCD monitor or the system is not working properly, the indicator turns off.

If the indicator turns off when the instantaneousant fuel consumption mode is not selected, have the system checked by an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible.

Warnings and indicators

All warning lights are checked by turning the ignition switch ON (do not start the engine). Any light that does not illuminate should be checked by an authorized KIA dealer.

After starting the engine, check to make sure that all warning lights are off. If any are still on, this indicates a situation that needs attention. When releasing the parking brake, the brake system warning light should go off. The fuel warning light will stay on if the fuel level is low.

Air bag warning light


Air bag warning light

This warning light will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds each time you turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

This light also comes on when the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is not working properly. If the SRS air bag warning light continuously remains on after operating does not come on, or
continuously remains on after operating for about 6 seconds when you turned the ignition switch to the ON position or started the engine, or if it comes on while driving, have the SRS inspected by an authorized KIA dealer.

Anti-lock brake system


Anti-lock brake system (ABS) warning light

This light illuminates if the ignition switch is turned ON and goes off in approximately 3 seconds if the system is operating normally.

If the ABS warning light remains on, comes on while driving, or does not come on when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, this indicates that there may be a malfunction with the ABS.

If this occurs, have your vehicle checked by an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible. The normal braking system will still be operational, but without the assistance of the anti-lock brake system.

Electronic brake force distribution


Electronic brake force distribution (EBD) system warning light

If these two warning lights illuminate at the same time while driving, your vehicle may have a malfunction with the ABS and EBD system.

In this case, your ABS and regular brake system may not work normally. Have the vehicle checked by an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible.

WARNING:


If the both ABS and brake warning lights are on and stay on, your vehicle’s brake system will not work normally during sudden braking. In this case, avoid high speed driving and abrupt braking. Have your vehicle checked by an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible.

NOTICE:


If the ABS warning light or EBD warning light is on and stays on, the speedometer or odometer/tripmeter may not work. In this case, have your vehicle checked by an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible.

Seat belt warning


Seat belt warning

As a reminder to the driver, the seat belt warning light will blink for approximately 6 seconds each time you turn the ignition switch ON regardless of belt fastening.

The warning light will blink again for approximately 6 seconds when starting the engine.

If the driver’s seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turned ON and/or START, the seat belt warning light and the seat belt warning chime will operate for approximately 6 seconds until the belt is fastened. And if the driver’s seat belt is disconnected after the ignition switch is turned ON, the seat belt warning light will blink for approximately 6 seconds until the belt is fastened. If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h (6 mph), the seat belt warning light and chime will operate for approximately 11 times with a pattern of 6 seconds on and 24 seconds off until the belt is fastened or the vehicle speed decreases below 5 km/h (3 mph).

Turn signal indicator


Turn signal indicator

The blinking green arrows on the instrument panel show the direction indicated by the turn signals. If the arrow comes on but does not blink, blinks more rapidly than normal, or does not illuminate at all, a malfunction in the turn signal system is indicated. Your dealer should be consulted for repairs.

High beam indicator


High beam indicator

This indicator illuminates when the headlights are on and in the high beam position or when the turn signal lever is pulled into the Flash-to-Pass position.

Tail light indicator


Tail light indicator (if equipped)

This indicator illuminates when the tail lights are on.

Engine oil pressure


Engine oil pressure warning light

This warning light indicates the engine oil pressure is low.

If the warning light illuminates while driving: 1. Drive safely to the side of the road and stop.

2. With the engine off, check the engine oil level. If the level is low, add oil as required.

If the warning light remains on after adding oil or if oil is not available, call an authorized KIA dealer.

CAUTION:


If the engine is not stopped immediately after the engine oil pressure warning light is illuminated, severe damage could result.

CAUTION:


If the oil pressure warning light stays on while the engine is running, serious engine damage may result. The oil pressure warning light comes on whenever there is insufficient oil pressure. In normal operation, it should come on when the ignition switch is turned on, then go out when the engine is started. If the oil pressure warning light stays on while the engine is running, there is a serious malfunction.

If this happens, stop the car as soon as it is safe to do so, turn off the engine and check the oil level. If the oil level is low, fill the engine oil to the proper level and start the engine again. If the light stays on with the engine running, turn the engine off immediately. In any instance where the oil light stays on when the engine is running, the engine should be checked by an authorized KIA dealer before the car is driven again.

Parking brake & brake fluid


Parking brake & brake fluid warning light

Parking brake warning

This light is illuminated when the parking brake is applied with the ignition switch in the START or ON position. The warning light should go off when the parking brake is released.

Low brake fluid level warning

If the warning light remains on, it may indicate that the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low.

If the warning light remains on: 1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop your vehicle.

2. With the engine stopped, check the brake fluid level immediately and add fluid as required. Then check all brake components for fluid leaks.

3. Do not drive the vehicle if leaks are found, the warning light remains on or the brakes do not operate properly.

Have the vehicle towed to any authorized KIA dealer for a brake system inspection and necessary repairs.

Your vehicle is equipped with dual-diagonal braking systems. This means you still have braking on two wheels even if one of the dual systems should fail. With only one of the dual systems working, more than normal pedal travel and greater pedal pressure are required to stop the car. Also, the car will not stop in as short a distance with only a portion of the brake system working. If the brakes fail while you are driving, shift to a lower gear for additional engine braking and stop the car as soon as it is safe to do so.

To check bulb operation, check whether the parking brake and brake fluid warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

WARNING:


Driving the vehicle with a warning light on is dangerous. If the brake warning light remains on, have the brakes checked and repaired immediately by an authorized KIA dealer.

Shift pattern indicator


Shift pattern indicator (if equipped)

The indicator displays which automatic transaxle shift position is selected.

Charging system warning


Charging system warning light

This warning light indicates a malfunction of either the generator or electrical charging system.

If the warning light comes on while the vehicle is in motion:
1. Drive to the nearest safe location.

2. With the engine off, check the generator drive belt for looseness or breakage.

3. If the belt is adjusted properly, a problem exists somewhere in the electrical charging system. Have an authorized KIA dealer correct the problem as soon as possible.

Front fog light indicator

This light comes on when the front fog lights are ON.

Trunk lid open warning


Trunk lid open warning light

This warning light illuminates when the trunk lid is not closed securely with the ignition in any position.

Door ajar warning light


Door ajar warning light

This warning light illuminates when a door is not closed securely with the ignition switch in any position.

Immobilizer indicator


Immobilizer indicator

Without smart key system

This light illuminates when the immobilizer key is inserted and turned to the ON position to start the engine.

At this time, you can start the engine.The light goes out after the engine is running.

If this light blinks when the ignition switch is in the ON position before starting the engine, have the system checked by an authorized KIA dealer.

Low fuel level warning light


Low fuel level warning light

This warning light indicates the fuel tank is nearly empty. When it comes on, you should add fuel as soon as possible.

Driving with the fuel level warning light on or with the fuel level below “E” can cause the engine to misfire and damage the catalytic converter.

Low washer fluid level


Low washer fluid level warning light (if equipped)

This warning light indicates the washer fluid reservoir is near empty. Refill the washer fluid as soon as possible.

Malfunction indicator light


Malfunction indicator light (MIL) (check engine light)

This indicator light is part of the Engine Control System which monitors various emission control system components. If this light illuminates while driving, it indicates that a potential malfunction has been detected somewhere in the emission control system.

This light will also illuminate when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, and will go out in a few seconds after the engine is started. If it illuminates while driving, or does not illuminate when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, take your vehicle to your nearest authorized KIA dealer and have the system checked.

Generally, your vehicle will continue to be drivable, but have the system checked by an authorized KIA dealer promptly.

CAUTION:


• Prolonged driving with the Malfunction Indicator Light illuminated may cause damage to the
emission control systems which could effect drivability and/or fuel economy.

• If the Malfunction Indicator Light illuminates, potential catalytic converter damage is possible which could result in loss of engine power. Have the Engine Control System inspected as soon as possible by an authorized KIA dealer.

ESC indicator (Electronic


ESC indicator (Electronic Stability Control)

The ESC indicator will illuminate when the ignition switch is turned ON, but should go off after approximately 3 seconds.

When the ESC is on, it monitors the driving conditions and under normal driving conditions, the ESC light will remain off. When a slippery or low traction condition is encountered, the ESC will operate, and the ESC indicator will blink to indicate the ESC is operating.

ESC OFF indicator


ESC OFF indicator

The ESC OFF indicator will illuminate when the ignition switch is turned ON, but should go off after approximately 3 seconds. To switch to ESC OFF mode, press the ESC OFF button. The ESC OFF indicator will illuminate indicating the ESC is deactivated. If this indicator stays on when ESC OFF is not selected, the ESC may have a malfunction. Take your car to an authorized KIA dealer and have the system checked.

CRUISE indicator

The indicator light illuminates when the cruise control system is enabled.

The cruise indicator light in the instrument cluster is illuminated when the cruise control ON-OFF button on the steering wheel is pushed.

The indicator light turns off when the cruise control ON-OFF button is pushed again. For more information about the use of cruise control, refer to “Cruise control system” in section 5.

Cruise SET indicator


Cruise SET indicator

The indicator light illuminates when the cruise function switch (SET- or RES+) is ON.

The cruise SET indicator light in the instrument cluster is illuminated when the cruise control switch (SET- or RES+) is pushed. The cruise SET indicator light does not illuminate when the cruise control switch (CANCEL) is pushed or the system is disengaged.

ECO indicator (if equipped)


ECO indicator (if equipped)

The ECO indicator light assists you to drive in the most economical way.

The green indicator comes on when you drive with high fuel efficiency.

To turn the ECO indicator OFF/ON

• without trip computer or with trip computer (Type A)

Select the ECO mode by pressing the TRIP button for less than 1 second.

Then, press the TRIP button for more than 1 second.

• with trip computer (Type B)

When the instantaneous fuel consumption mode is displayed on the LCD monitor or the system is not working properly, the indicator turns off.

If the indicator turns off when the instantaneousant fuel consumption mode is not selected, have the system checked by an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible.

The fuel efficiency depends on driver's driving habit and road condition.

The system stops operation when the transaxle is in the P,R,N position or sports mode, or instantaneous fuel consumption mode is selected.

WARNING:


Do not focus the indicator too much. You may lose your steering control and cause an accident that results in severe personal injury or death.
